john elia, the greatest among comtemporary urdu poets

aajkal john elia ka daur chal raha hai
i cannot stop till i can hear/read all the material on him online
hum zaahil hain urdu ke maamle main. par aise shairon ko samajhne ke liye urdu sikhi ja sakti hai. bilkul..

gazal: uske pahloo se lag ke chalte hain
recited in jash-e-john elia at dubai

uske pahloo se lag ke chalte hain
hum kahin taalne se talte hain

main ussi tarah to bahalta hoon
`aur` jis tarah bahalte hain

woh hain jaan ab har ek mehfil ki
hum bhi ab ghar se kam nikalte hain

kya takalluf karein yeh kahne mein
jo bhi khush hain hum usse jalte hain

hai use door ka safr dar-pesh
hum sambhale nahin sambhalte hain

hai ajab faisle ka sehra bhi,
chal na padiye to paanv jalte hain

ho raha hoon main kis tarah barbaad
dekhne wale haath malte hain

tum bano rang tum bano khusboo
hum to apne sukhan mein dhalte hain

android dev phone received !!

was really.. really eagerly waiting for the UPS box to arrive. Got it 3pm today.
Now, the very first problem that I need to solve is
- to boot (i won`t say start or power on. that`s uncool..) it without a SIM card.
- also why do need to sign in with a google account as a precondition to reach standby.
if it must be done, why not hook up to wifi and do it. why burn money on f..g wap connection.

looking around for hacks

installing ubuntu on the japanese version eeepc 900

Background: for foreigners living in Japan and turned on by the eee pc buzz, i sure rushed to the nearest yodobashi store to grab the Eee PC 900. However, there are 2 problems for the people who are not comfortable with Japanese.
1. Keyboard: You cannot do anything about it
2. WinXP Japanese OS: Make your 900 dual boot with ubuntu linux on it.

quick steps:
1. Download ubuntu ee ISO on your pc,
2. Flash that ISO image to the SD card. You can use an USB also.
This step creates a media you can boot from to start the ubuntu install process.
Similar to having a bootable windows installation cd when you are installing windows.
3. Boot from the SD card image. Press ESC when the PC is powered on. Choose USB option to boot from. It will actually use SD card, so do not worry.
4. go through ubuntu wizard to install. I ran into problems when creating ext3 partition because my SD card had low space (even though it was 4GB SDHC card). Anyways, I avioded the problem by choosing the 8gb D partition that was default present (and empty).
Once installation is done, you don`t need the bootable card again. So pull it out and reboot.

Lo! you got multiboot options with winxp listed last..

thoughts on the unknown

Treat every unknown as possible. If something is unknown, dont fear or respect it.
Treat it trivial.. treat is as something which will be easily done when it unfolds.
In ignorance, there is fearlessness. Fearlessness encourages you to be brave.

Prayers for Mridu

And then suddenly, one day you hear.
That which you were dreading for so long.
An email, spoken softly

tears the heart.
You start questioning god
Really? Is he there?

Mridu is not here anymore. The D5 family is in deep sorrow.

Edna St. Vincent Millay:
Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.

other uses of a camera lcd. ref: nikon s7c

now, we all know that the nikon s7c is a great camera (bcos i have got one, :) ) with built in and stuff.
but its also got a big LCD. and i was thinking of what other uses we can make of it.
- bcos the camera is a handy device. its got a good battery life. so may be i can read e-books on it?

How will it work?
The idea looks simple.
Convert a pdf / doc into a series of jpg files. of course the pictures will be numbered in same sequence as the pages. then start the first pic and keep reading.
now only that where is the sw that will convert the pdf to jpg? and how will the text look on the camera lcd? will it be readable. May be we have to convert 1 page to 2 jpgs and so on.

The camera has a scroll interface, so it will be really cool to use.
Also the slideshow feature can be customized according to your speed.

Hey..hey.. bullshit... :))
But I going to make that converter from pdf to jpg pages.
